COLUMBIA, Mo. - A former patient of a hospital in Columbia has filed a lawsuit against the hospital and doctors involved, claiming they misdiagnosed and mistreated him for years.
Attorney for the plaintiff says the defendants failed to properly treat his case, resulting in long term pain and suffering.
"It's just bizarre," said attorney for the plaintiff, Terri Hemmert. "This was like happening over and over again."
Hemmert said she first got involved with the case of Arthur King, 61, when she saw some of the medical records from the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
King claims he was misdiagnosed for years with the assumption that he was sicker than he really was.
"When I look at these records and I see the handwriting on the wall, I can't help but think that someone needs to be held accountable and they need to be prosecuted," Hemmert said.
"This is not an isolated incident," she said. "It's happening to people all the time."
Hemmert said King is still suffering from the ordeal, but he is seeking help to help him through this difficult time.
Hospital representatives declined to comment on the case.
Judge Warren McElroy, who is presiding over the case, said he feels for the plaintiff.
"This gentleman has given a description of the care that he received in the hospital, and it was just the way he stated it, it was just terribly painful," he said.
But the judge says King still has to prove that the defendants' were negligent.
"They are responsible for what they did, but I can't tell you whether that's negligent," he said.
The defendants' have 30 days to respond to the lawsuit.
Hemmert said she has already filed a motion to have 0b46394aab
